Franzen letter: Erasing history

All this uproar about the South taking down monuments to the Civil War or War Between the States — whatever you call it. It is all garbage. It is history of our country, a sad part but still. The war was not all about slavery, it was to keep the Union together — people need to read. So if we let these people who don't have a clue what they are talking about dictate stuff like this, we will have no history. That is one of the steps that are taken to change a country, erase the history. If this is the case then I guess the Alamo should be destroyed. Travis was a slave holder and so were several others there. They wanted Texas to be a slave state. I just believe that history is to be learned from, not erased.
