Norris letter: Cuts to veterans’ benefits
Regarding VA Individual Unemployable Benefit.
Proposed cuts to IU: With the recent release of President Trump’s budget plan including proposed cuts to several benefits that disabled veterans count on. The proposed cuts include eliminating Individual Unemployability for veterans who become eligible for Social Security, rounding down the monthly amount received by disabled veterans and surviving spouses, and a massive expansion of the Choice Program without fixing its existing major issues. The sum of the proposed cuts would be tens of thousands of dollars annually for average veterans with service-connected disabilities that prevent them from working.
This would especially hit me hard as I was A Medically retired with less than 20 years so I already lose my Army retirement due to the VA offset, which is about $1,200 per month. If this proposal goes through I will lose another $1,500 per month and would lose my home. I have been getting SS Disability until age 65 then it switched to regular SSA. Please don’t throw me out and make me homeless.
