D’Orazio letter: Memorial Day

Incredulous that so many merchants denigrate Memorial Day and see it fit to promote their merchandise ... rather than honor our brave warriors who sacrificed their all to preserve our freedoms, about 620,000 buried here at home, on foreign soil and in the sea since World War I.

These business leaders should be strengthening our country and attempting to close the divisiveness rather than concerned about the almighty dollar. They have the ability to be positive role models, demonstrate enthusiastic leadership by example and be concerned about USA [US All together]. In the long run it is in their best interests to see the greater picture.

I, for one, will not patronize any business who exploits Veterans Day or Memorial Day ... leave it alone and recognize them for their intended purpose. We owe it to all past, present and future military service people. What message are we sending to our youth and our future leaders?

United we stand ... divided we fall ...Wake up, merchants, or continue to add to the slippery slope of apathy, indifference and “what is in it for me.”

Gary B. D’Orazio, Eagle
