Atwell letter: Abusive relationships
A woman who decides to leave an abusive relationship will find herself, at some point, answering one of two questions. People will either ask: “Why did you leave?” or “Why did you stay?” Answering the first one honestly beats the heck out of answering the second one after years of abuse. And for those with a front row seat to the carnage left behind after a marriage is dissolved or a family torn asunder, perhaps a better question to ask would be, “How can I help?”
