The authors of the front page story Saturday, Nov. 12, did a huge disservice to the law enforcement officers and agencies involved in the search for, and the ultimate death of, Marco Romero, an out-of-control felon suspected of shooting two people in Meridian. The article reported on the well-coordinated, tense and dangerous efforts to protect citizens while removing the threat. Two officers were wounded, one critically. Great, informational article, but the good reporting was all undone by the last line, “Last year, Idaho police shot and killed seven people, tying the 2007 record.” Degrading law enforcement efforts to the level of a game scorecard did an extreme disservice to our law enforcement officers and reflects poorly on the Statesman.
