Paige letter: U.S. Postal Service

With the holiday season approaching, it is more important than ever to “think outside the mailbox.” Sure, it’s also important to “think inside the mailbox,” by mailing your cards and packages early so that they can arrive in time, bringing this country closer together.

During the year, many of us don’t have the time to contact friends and family as much as we want and share our thoughts with each other. Mailing a card, large envelope or package to someone lets them know you are thinking about them no matter how far away they could be, especially our valued veterans.

All this is done without using any taxpayer dollars, in all kinds of weather, almost every day. Letter carriers know how important receiving the mail is to you and we want to deliver it to you in the best, and safest, most economical way possible.

We could serve you better if Congress would pass laws to let the U.S. Postal Service offer banking services, maintaining door-to-door delivery, six-day delivery and service standards.

Thank you for your friendship and trust, past, present and future. We are looking forward to your smiles.

John Paige, president, Idaho State Association of Letter Carriers
