The first part of this month I had the pleasure of ushering at the Morrison Center for the 9th Annual Idaho Youth Barbershop Festival. It included vocal performances of over 1,000 youth from Southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon. They were amazing. The schools represented were Boise High, Borah High, Capital High, Idaho Arts Charter, Idaho Fine Arts, Marsing High, Meridian High, Nampa High, North Jr. High, Ontario High, Riverglen Jr. High, Sawtooth Middle, West Jr. High, Heritage Middle, Middleton High, Mountain Home High, Nampa West Middle, Parma High, Skyview High, South Middle, Timberline High, Caldwell High, Lone Star Middle and the Mansfield Quartet. I thought this event was worthy of an article in your newspaper, but apparently vocal groups don’t count. I recognize this wouldn’t have qualified for one of your, “Twelve stories to catch up on,” since it didn’t involve a stabbing, robbery, car wreck or other blood and guts. I’m sure these young people put in long hours of practice and a little recognition would have been nice.
