On Aug. 28, the Statesman ran an Associated Press article“I’m not paranoid ... But we’re prepared: They’re ready if the country sinks into chaos,” describing the American Redoubt preppers/survivalists in North Idaho. This article was very timely, considering the presidential proclamation that was signed by President Barack Obama on Aug. 31, declaring September 2016 to be “National Preparedness Month.” (Available on the White House website, whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2016/08/31/proclamation-national-preparedness-month-2016.)
As stated convincingly by President Obama, “Let us recognize that each of us can do our part to prepare for emergencies, help those affected by disasters, and ensure all our people have the necessary resources and knowledge to protect themselves.” Sounds like those American Redoubt Idaho preppers and survivalists are doing their best to follow the president’s advice.
For those of us who do not have Secret Service protection 24/7, I am sure that the “necessary resources to protect ourselves” will include a variety of firearms and ammunition. Thanks, Mr. President.
