Miller letter: Marijuana
I read with interest Elisha Figueroa’s guest opinion “Learn the truth about marijuana.” She points out the increase in auto accidents in the states with legalized marijuana. A recent article from the Mayo Clinic relates the epidemiologic evidence of prolonged marijuana exposure on cognitive function, development of addiction, abnormal brain development and symptoms of chronic bronchitis. It seems to me that states legalizing marijuana in one form or another would be concerned that in 10-20 years they would have a bunch of “potheads” with chronic lung disease not being able to work and be welfare dependent. Perhaps the states are too “giddy’ about their increased tax revenues from marijuana sales that they simply don’t think about the future. Maybe those in control are pot users themselves.
