Rain headed to Boise, with chance of thunderstorms. How long will showers last?

There’s no need to water your garden too heavily. A rainstorm is expected to roll into the Boise area.

A “pretty strong spring-like upper-level storm system that’s moving into the Pacific Northwest” will bring rain to the City of Trees on Monday night, according to Jaret Rogers, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s office in Boise.

“Rainfall amounts aren’t going to be tremendously high,” Rogers told the Idaho Statesman via phone. “We’re looking at about maybe a quarter inch or less for most areas in the Boise area.”

According to the Southwest Idaho regional forecast discussion, there’s only “a slight chance for thunderstorms“ on Tuesday.

Here’s what to know:

How long will rain showers last?

“June’s one of our drier months, so any rain that we get in June is definitely helpful,” Rogers said.

According to Rogers, the western part of the state can expect widespread rainfall overnight Monday, with isolated showers continuing through Tuesday morning.

A Pacific cold front will move through Oregon, according to Rogers.

“After 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., we’ll start to see rain across most of the Treasure Valley,” the meteorologist told the Statesman.

Rogers added that temperatures will cool down moderately because of the cold front.
