Widespread rain, heavy snow headed to Boise region. Here’s what to expect

After a warm weekend of sunshine, Boise is about to see a change in the weather.

“Dry and unseasonably warm conditions will persist across most of the state through Monday before a significant shift to an active, wet pattern arrives Monday night,” the National Weather Service said in its latest Idaho state forecast discussion.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, a “moist” storm system will bring “widespread rain to valley floors” and “heavy snow to mountain passes and ridges above 6,000 to 7,000 feet” in elevation, the weather service said, with the “highest precipitation amounts” expected in the Central Idaho mountains.

Boise mostly will see rain, but more than a foot of snow could fall at higher elevations, including at Bogus Basin, according to a forecast on the ski resort’s website.

How much snow will Bogus Basin get?

Bogus Basin was expected to see “periods of significant accumulating snow” from Monday evening through early Tuesday morning, according to the resort’s website.

“Gusty and strong winds will create snow drifts and hard-to-measure depths as our big storm drops in,” the resort said in its latest forecast. “Snowfall is forecast to be 4 to 7 inches.”

“Over a foot of snow is possible on the upper mountain” on Tuesday, Bogus Basin said in its forecast. “This will be a nice base builder.”

Lower elevations of Bogus Basin will receive between 5 and 8 inches of snowfall on Tuesday, according to the forecast.
