How much snow did Boise get as winter weather strikes? Is more coming?
Boise residents were greeted by a blanket of snow Wednesday morning after a weather system moved in overnight.
Experts measured 0.6 inches of snow at the Boise Airport, National Weather Service meteorologist Sophia Adams told the Idaho Statesman.
Areas to the west, however, received less snow. Adams said official readings hadn’t come in from Canyon County, but she estimated that area received about 0.2 inches.
Bogus Basin had received 1.8 inches at 6,300 feet by 8:30 a.m. with more continuing to fall, Adams said.
“We had a weak cold front move through this morning,” Adams said by phone. “It had some moisture from the Pacific Ocean and some colder air at the surface that allowed us to see snow pretty much across the region.”
But don’t expect the snow to last long. The cold front was moving out and predicted precipitation stopped by 10 a.m., according to Adams. She said temperatures would reach above freezing between 11 a.m. and noon to eventually reach high temperatures in the low 40s.
“Our skies should clear by the afternoon,” Adams said.
Another weak system from the north will likely move in Thursday, causing fog and colder temperatures but this time with little to no precipitation, Adams said.
The Treasure Valley is likely to remain dry the rest of the week.
“Our next chance of precipitation is looking like Monday into Tuesday,” Adams said. “We could see kind of a similar system to what we saw today, so maybe some Valley rain and light snow showers.
