It’s going to be wet and windy this week. How much rain will the Boise area see?
The Treasure Valley is in for a wet and windy week.
The National Weather Service is expecting rain and wind to start Tuesday night, with wind gusts getting up to 30 or 40 miles per hour on Wednesday in the Boise area.
It could be a little drier Wednesday night before another round of precipitation starts Thursday afternoon and lasts at least through the weekend, NWS meteorologist Jackson MacFarlane said. In total, the Boise area could expect to see about three-quarters of an inch of rain through Sunday.
“The winds kind of proceed and come with the beginning of a long period of rain,” he told the Idaho Statesman. “There’s a chance of rain just about every day through at least Sunday, possibly even continuing into early next week, leading into Christmas.”
There is a brief chance of some mixed precipitation across Boise and most of the lower Treasure Valley, which is the area west of Ada County.
“Maybe some partially melted snowflakes. You might see some flurries there,” MacFarlane said. “But the bulk of our precipitation is all going to be that rain.”
Bogus Basin might not see much snow through Wednesday, but that is expected to change between Thursday and Sunday. MacFarlane said snow levels are dropping and Bogus and some of the surrounding summits could see four to eight inches of snow.
He can’t say yet whether Boise will have a white Christmas. “We’ll have to wait and see how that pans out,” he said.
