Boise and Treasure Valley residents have a chance to enjoy a beautiful fall Friday before a cold front bringing rainy weather and gusty winds settles into Southwest Idaho starting Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, an “atmospheric river” is bringing in a system from the northwest that will dump rain in the valley and possible snow in the mountains this weekend.

Friday will see mostly sunny skies and the high temperature will be 72 degrees, according to the weather service. In the afternoon and evening, winds could gust up to 21 miles per hour as the system starts to arrive, the NWS said.

Showers are forecast to start Saturday morning, with very cloudy conditions and temperatures in the 50s. The weather service said Boise could get up to a quarter-inch of rain, with some thunderstorms even possible Saturday night. The low will be about 40, with winds up to 23 mph.

The rainy weather is likely to stick around, with NWS forecasts showing 50% chances of precipitation both Sunday and Monday. The mountains very likely will see snow, the agency said, with Bogus Basin seeing 4-6 inches of snow by Monday night.

The rest of next week shows dry conditions through Friday, with high temperatures in the high 50s and even low 60s, according to the weather service’s seven-day forecast.
