Boise’s weather is about to go from unseasonably warm to unusually cool
Hold off on those knit sweaters for just a couple of days because Boise will have a bit more warmth before a cold front brings cold air, wind and a chance of snow up in the mountains.
A system stalled off the Pacific Northwest coast has been pushing warm weather toward Boise this week, according to Boise NWS meteorologist Jackson MacFarlane.
Thursday and Friday will be dry and warm, with temperatures in the low 80s, NWS predicts on its website. These temperatures are about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year, MacFarlane said.
The system is also pushing gusty winds to the Treasure Valley with speeds at about 10 miles per hour for the next couple of afternoons.
But, as soon as Saturday comes, so does a low-pressure system bringing colder weather. The high temperature is expected to drop significantly to a high of 65 degrees.
Sunday’s forecast is even colder with a high of 56 degrees. That is 10 degrees below normal, according to the NWS.
Some mountain areas may see snow Sunday evening. This is the first major system putting snow on the mountains, indicating the end of fire season, MacFarlane said.
Once the system reaches Boise, it will bring moisture into the area starting Friday afternoon, MacFarlane said. Chances of precipitation will be at about 20% to 30% Friday through Wednesday.
