Heat advisory for Boise area as July begins with temperatures over 100
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Boise area as temperatures in the Treasure Valley are expected to exceed 100 degrees on Tuesday, July 1.
The Boise region could see temperatures of up to 103 degrees, NWS meteorologist Korri Anderson told the Idaho Statesman.
The heat advisory extends to the Lower Snake Plain and southeast Oregon, and poses a moderate risk of heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke, according to the National Weather Service. Youth, the elderly and animals are at a higher risk of experiencing symptoms.
The National Weather Service advises people to stay hydrated, use air conditioning and check in on others during the advisory.
Anderson said that people should continue to exercise caution Wednesday despite the advisory lifting Tuesday night.
“Wednesday is gonna be about 3 or 4 degrees cooler, but it’s still gonna be near 100,” Anderson told the Statesman. He added that strenuous outdoor activities like hiking will still be risky.
Meteorologists expect high temperatures to cool off to around 90 degrees in time for July 4, but thunderstorms may be on the horizon. The chance of storms will increase to 10% to 20% for Thursday through Saturday, Anderson said.
