Boise heat will break Friday as temperatures set to plunge this weekend
After a stretch of hot, dry days, Boise will see a dip into cooler temperatures heading into the weekend.
The city will see highs near 93 degrees Wednesday and 92 on Thursday — which is above average for mid-June.
“The highs today, tomorrow and Thursday are still about 10 degrees above average,” NWS Boise meteorologist David Groenert told the Idaho Statesman in an interview.
But that heat won’t stick around, he said. A strong low-pressure system pushing in from the Gulf of Alaska is expected to bring gusty winds, cooler air and even a chance of rain by Saturday.
“With the low pressure system it’ll bring a low chance of rain with it. The chance of thunderstorms and showers will tick up each day with the best chance on Saturday,” Groenert said.
By Friday, Boise’s high temperature will fall to about 82 degrees, with an overnight low in the upper 40s. Saturday’s forecast is even cooler: a high of just 68 degrees, paired with a 30% chance of showers.
That means Boise could see a 26-degree drop in daytime highs between Thursday and Saturday — a noticeable swing that marks the arrival of a cool dip in temperature. But Groenert said the dip will likely be brief before returning to those warmer temperatures in the following week.
Here’s a closer look at the daily forecast, according to the National Weather Service:
Wednesday, June 18: Sunny and hot, high near 93. Light winds.
Thursday, June 19: Sunny again, with a high near 92.
Friday, June 20: Sunny, breezy, and noticeably cooler. High near 82, low around 49.
Saturday, June 21: Chance of showers, partly sunny, high near 68.
Sunday, June 22: Mostly sunny, high near 69.
Monday, June 23: Temperatures rebound slightly, sunny with a high near 79.
Forecasters say the weekend will also bring breezy conditions and a possibility of mountain snow at elevations above 6,500 feet.
