Heavy storms cause flooding in Boise. See pictures and what’s still to come
The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement and flood advisory for Boise and other parts of the Treasure Valley on Tuesday afternoon.
A strong storm formed south of the downtown area around 3:30 p.m., bringing heavy rain, pea-sized hail and lightning to West Boise, Garden City and around the Boise Foothills.
“The downtown core, it’s kind of going around there, but it’s hitting the western part of the city pretty good,” Weather Service meteorologist Spencer Tangen told the Idaho Statesman. “It might get into the east part of Eagle, but that’s the main area that the storm is moving through.”
Although the special weather statement regarding the storm expired at 4:30 p.m., the flood advisory will last through 6 p.m. The advisory warns that up to 1 inch of rain had fallen, potentially causing urban and small stream flooding.
As the storm passed through, localized flooding occurred on and near Northview Street in West Boise and residential streets around Five Mile and Ustick roads.
Tangen said that although the storm Tuesday afternoon was the primary concern, further storms in southwest Idaho and southeast Oregon could impact the Treasure Valley later in the evening.
