Warmer temps are here, Boise. But here to stay? Here’s how hot it will get, and when

You’ve paid your weather dues, Boiseans, and now you’re set for your reward.

For just the second time in 2023, temperatures in the Treasure Valley are poised to eclipse the 80-degree mark this weekend, and the warmer temperatures appear to be here for good.

The National Weather Service in Boise has forecast rapidly rising temperatures for Idaho this week after the state has dealt with cold and wet conditions from March through April, the result of a low-pressure system off the West Coast that repeatedly pulled in Arctic air and storms.

“The storm track is actually shifting and bringing a ridge of high pressure ... over the region,” Matthew Cullen, a meteorologist with the Weather Service, told the Idaho Statesman. “And that’s actually associated with the warmer and drier conditions that we’re going to see.”

How hot will it get in Boise?

Boise can expect temperatures to peak on Sunday at 87 degrees. The Weather Service is giving Boise an 83% chance of hitting at least 80 on Saturday and a 94% chance on Sunday. The high on Saturday is forecast to be in the low 80s.

“The entire interior West is going to be quite warm because this high pressure goes all over the western part of the United States and even into British Columbia,” National Weather Service meteorologist Les Colin told the Statesman.

How long will the spring temperatures last?

Colin thinks Boise has finally waved goodbye to the colder weather and snow.

“I think I can tell you winter is pretty well done,” Colin said. “ ... I think this will probably be the season changer.”

The Weather Service forecasts a 20%-30% chance of rain starting Sunday night into early next week, but high temperatures will remain in the 70s and lows will bottom out around 50.

“Even after the high pressure leaves, we have a chance of showers and thunderstorms into next week,” Colin said. “But it still won’t be anywhere near as cool as it was in the previous week.”

The Climate Prediction Center’s two-week outlook gives Boise a 33%-50% chance of above-average temperatures and a 40%-50% chance of above-normal precipitation. The average temperature for Boise in late April is 67 degrees.
