Snow could continue in the Treasure Valley this week. Here’s what to expect
Snow could continue in the Treasure Valley throughout the week, with temperatures expected to drop into the weekend.
Snow and wind near the Nevada border was expected Monday, with scattered snow showers in Southwest Idaho throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service in Boise. Late Sunday night, the Weather Service measured 2.1 inches of snow that had fallen at the Boise Airport, with reports of more in Meridian and Nampa.
The Boise Airport on Sunday closed its runway for about an hour for snow removal and a handful of flights had to be diverted, said Shawna Samuelson, communications and marketing manager for the airport. The airport was back up and running shortly after.
Snow could return Wednesday, and late Thursday through Friday in the Treasure Valley, according to the Weather Service.
Colder temperatures are also expected. The NWS said temperatures could drop to 15-20 degrees below normal. The forecast shows a low of 10 degrees in Boise and a high of 23 on Tuesday. On Saturday, the forecast predicts a low of 6 degrees, with a high of 21.
The inclement weather has already shut down portions of state highways throughout the state, due to drifting snow, high winds and reduced visibility. The Idaho Transportation Department’s 511 road report shows many road closures near the Wyoming border, with reports of snow and “slick pavement” throughout the state.
The Ada County Highway District warned people to stay in if possible, and to watch for icy conditions when traveling.
“We have had full operations deployed from both maintenance yards since 1 a.m., but with temperatures well below freezing the only word to use for this morning’s commute is SLICK,” ACHD tweeted Monday morning. “Give yourself plenty of time if you NEED to be on the roads today. SLOW AND STEADY ADA COUNTY!”
