The Idaho State Capitol received a bomb threat via email early Thursday morning, according to Idaho State Police spokesperson Aaron Snell, but ultimately the building was deemed safe after no devices were found.

The bomb threat, which came in around 5:30 a.m., was also sent to address in multiple states, Snell said. It was not immediately clear where those other locations were, although the Arkansas State Capitol was evacuated Thursday morning after a bomb threat was received there, media outlets reported.

“While these types of calls aren’t specifically tracked, they have increased,” Snell wrote in an email to the statesman. “Typically, ISP responds to 3-4 incidents a year. While every incident is treated as a real threat, to date, nothing suspicious has been located.”

Four Idaho State Police troopers and a K-9 dog responded. Capitol security staff also had four personnel, Snell said.

Several public buildings in recent months have received fake threats, including a fake bomb threat to the Vallivue School District in December 2023 and a threatening note at the Mountain Home courthouse in January 2024, according to previous Statesman reporting.
