Who’s running for Nampa mayor? Explore the candidates in our Voter Guide
Four candidates are running for mayor of Nampa in the Nov. 4 election.
Incumbent Debbie Kling is not seeking re-election after two terms in office. Kling, who grew up in Kansas and turns 68 in October, presided over a period of tremendous growth for the city. She told the Idaho Statesman in June that she had a successor in mind whom she hopes voters pick: Rick Hogaboam, the Canyon County clerk and Kling’s former chief of staff.
Challenging Hogaboam are Eric Myricks, an entrepreneur and performing artist who goes by the stage name Elijah Rock; Melissa Sue “Suzi” Robinson, a transgender woman who ran for mayor in 2009, 2013 and 2017; and Justin Buchholz, a truck driver and self-proclaimed “regular guy” who donated to Ammon Bundy’s bid for governor in 2022.
The winner will serve a four-year term.
The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates, and their responses are presented below, unedited. In their responses, the candidates addressed issues such as how to handle growth, public safety and traffic. Buchholz did not respond to the questionnaire.
