Who’s running for Nampa City Council? See the candidates in our Voter Guide
Seven candidates are running for three Nampa City Council seats in the Nov. 4 election.
Debbie Skaug and Kody Daffer are competing for the District 1 seat. Randy Haverfield is running for re-election to District 5 against Wendy Rhodes, Shaun Simmons and Victor Rodriguez, who now represents District 1.
Rodriguez is running for the District 5 seat because of a state law passed in 2020 that requires any city with over 100,000 or more people to elect council members by district. When Rodriguez ran for his first two terms on the City Council, members weren’t elected by district. He and Haverfield both live in what is now District 5.
David Bills, who represents District 3, is running uncontested for re-election. Bills was appointed to the seat in January to fill a vacancy left by Natalie Jangula.
The winners will serve four-year terms.
The Idaho Statesman found in background checks of 68 local candidates that Simmons was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence in 2011. “It’s definitely not something that I am proud of or enjoy talking about,” Simmons told the Statesman.
The Statesman sent surveys to the candidates in the two contested races, and their responses are presented below, unedited. They addressed issues such as growth and public safety. Swipe below to see all the candidates, or click on the scroll bar at the bottom.
