Who’s running for Caldwell City Council? See the candidates in our Voter Guide

Idaho's 2025 elections

Idaho voters have decisions to make in the November election. No federal or state offices are on the ballot in 2025, but candidates for city councils and mayor are. So are school and special-district trustees. These are the local governments that require property taxes and deliver police, public education and other services. Some of them have placed measures on the ballot asking voters to pony up property-tax money for specific needs. The Statesman is shining a spotlight on this election with news, in-depth enterprise reporting, exclusive watchdog stories, and our Voter Guide Q&As with candidates answering our questions. Find them here.

Nine candidates are running for three Caldwell City Council seats in the Nov. 4 election.

Incumbent Chuck Stadick, who has served two terms in Seat 2 on the City Council, is running against Dennis Staack and Randy Neary. Incumbent Diana Register, in Seat 3, is running for another term against Marisela Pesina, who is vice chair of the Caldwell School Board.

Carlos Hernandez, Brandon Weast, Scott Tilmant and Jorge Arancivia are competing for Seat 1, which is occupied by City Council President Brad Doty, who is running for Caldwell mayor.

The winners will serve four-year terms.

The Idaho Statesman found in background checks of 68 local candidates that Neary was charged in 2013 with attempted strangulation and domestic violence without traumatic injury against a family member. The charges were eventually dismissed after he met the terms of a withheld judgment. His ex-wife told the Statesman she “never, ever” felt like a victim of domestic violence and supports his council bid.

The Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates, and their responses are presented below, unedited. In their responses, the candidates addressed issues such as how to handle growth and upgrade infrastructure. Arancivia declined to answer.
