Who’s got your vote in Garden City? Our Voter Guide has key info

Idaho's 2025 elections

Idaho voters have decisions to make in the November election. No federal or state offices are on the ballot in 2025, but candidates for city councils and mayor are. So are school and special-district trustees. These are the local governments that require property taxes and deliver police, public education and other services. Some of them have placed measures on the ballot asking voters to pony up property-tax money for specific needs. The Statesman is shining a spotlight on this election with news, in-depth enterprise reporting, exclusive watchdog stories, and our Voter Guide Q&As with candidates answering our questions. Garden City will choose a new mayor for the first time in decades, and two City Council seats are up for grabs.

Incumbent Mayor John Evans announced he wouldn’t run again after serving five terms. Now Molly Lenty, Bill Jacobs and Teresa Roundy are vying for Garden City’s top job.

Teresa Jorgensen is looking to hang onto her City Council seat for a second term after winning election in 2021. She was first appointed to the council in 2020. She faces five challengers, an unusually high number for a council race: Kelceymarie Warner, Dennis Mansfield, Wendy Carver-Herbert, Gage Coprivnicar and Starr Shepard.

Three of the candidates have faced problems that landed them in court, as detailed in this story about what we found in background checks we conducted on 68 local candidates:

• Jorgensen was found guilty of three counts of criminal contempt of court, which she said “do not reflect my character or conduct.”

• Roundy pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and said that she was using marijuana and CBD to recover from the trauma of family court.

• Lenty was sued by Wells Fargo Bank, her employer, in 2015. Lenty said the case was because her now ex-husband hadn’t paid off a credit card.

For this Voter Guide story, the Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates, and their responses are presented below, unedited, except to shorten when a candidate exceeded a 100-word limit per answer. The Statesman asked candidates about growth, renters, homeowners and private property rights.
