Who’s running for Boise’s Legislative District 19? Hear from the candidates

Boise and Garden City voters in Legislative District 19 will soon decide whether to send their Democratic lawmakers back to the Idaho Capitol.

Three Democratic incumbents will face Republican challengers in the Nov. 8 general election. District 19, in Garden City and northern Boise, follows along the Ada-Boise County border in the east and includes the Boise Foothills and North End.

The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates vying for the two-year terms, and their responses are unedited below.

Sen. Melissa Wintrow, a first-term senator who served six years in the House, will face Republican Blair Moss, a precinct committeeman from Garden City running on property tax reform and school choice.

House Assistant Minority Leader Lauren Necochea, who also chairs the Idaho Democratic Party, is running for a third term in her House position A seat. She will face Republican Melissa Christian. Christian told the Statesman the questions were “incredibly intrusive” and declined to fill out the survey.

Rep. Chris Mathias, a freshman legislator, is running for his House position B seat against Republican James Faasau. Faasau didn’t respond to the survey.
