Who is running to represent Idaho’s Legislative District 8? Hear from the candidates
Several candidates will be running in the Nov. 8 general election to represent Idaho’s Legislative District 8.
Rep. Matt Bundy, R-Mountain Home, a freshman legislator, is facing Steven Feil, a member of the Constitution Party from Mountain Hill, for one of the District 8 House seats. House Majority Caucus Chair Megan Blanksma, R-Hammett, will face Constitution Party candidate Tony Ullrich from Hammett.
For the Senate position, Republican Geoff Schroeder, of Mountain Home, is running unopposed.
District 8 covers Valley, Boise, Custer and Elmore counties.
The Idaho Statesman sent surveys to each of the candidates in contested races on a variety of issues, including their priorities, what they wish the Legislature had done last session and what issues they think aren’t being discussed enough. Their responses are copied below, unedited.
Blanksma and Ullrich did not respond to the survey.
The Statesman conducts background checks on all candidates, including those who did not respond. Ullrich has had one bankruptcy filed in 1994 and three state tax liens related to nonpayments, according to public records. The latest lien was for over $4,700 in Oregon in 2003, records showed.
Ullrich said the bankruptcy was withdrawn before it went in front of a judge. He said somebody took out credit in his name, and the creditor “was not willing to work with me while it was getting straightened out.” He said he was not aware of the tax liens.
