Nampa resident recognized for years of election volunteering

Jean Knutson, 92, has lived in Nampa since she was 7 years old. She’s been volunteering at every election — but one — for more than 50 years.

“When I first started, we were counting by hand, and that took a long time,” Knutson said.

At Tuesday’s election she was still volunteering at the polls and was recognized for her standout service. Canyon County Clerk Chris Yamamoto presented her with an award to celebrate her long-demonstrated civic duty.

To her, the volunteerism just makes sense. She said she loves the people who she sees twice a year at the polls and thinks everybody should not just vote, but understand the process.

“I was shocked too on that, but I really like it,” she said about Yamamoto presenting her with an award. “I said I was going to get a frame and put it on the wall.”
