No Democrats filed for positions in Canyon County primary election. Who’s running in GOP?
The text is mostly red on the Canyon County candidate filing list for the May 2022 primary election, with only Republicans running for county positions.
Twelve candidates filed for six open positions, and all are Republicans. All of the incumbents are running for reelection.
The filings by Friday’s deadline underscore the near-absence of the Democratic Party in Canyon County. For the most part, the county contests are likely to be decided in the May GOP primary.
County Commissioner Keri Smith will face two challengers, Brad Holton and Connie Constantine, for her seat as the District 2 commissioner. District 2 includes Parma, Wilder, Greenleaf, Nampa and Caldwell. Smith was elected in 2020 for a two-year term to replace Commissioner Tom Dale, who retired. Smith would serve a four-year term if reelected.
Commissioner Pam White will face Victor Holliday and Zach Brooks for her seat as District 3 commissioner. White first won election in 2016. District 3 includes Nampa. White would serve a two-year term if reelected.
County Clerk Chris Yamamoto will face challenger Sandy Bowden. Coroner Jennifer Crawford will face Mike Pullin. Assessor Brian Stender and Treasurer Tracie Lloyd are unopposed.
Precinct committee elections will see at least a few Democrats. There are 105 Republicans who filed for the 51 precinct committee chair slots across Canyon County, while just 12 Democrats and one Libertarian did.
