Who’s running for Boise City Council in 2021? Our voter guide highlights the candidates

For the first time, Boise residents will have the chance to elect city councilors based on geographical districts, as opposed to at-large seats used in the past. This year, that includes districts encompassing downtown, the Bench, Northwest Boise, West Boise and more.

Three of the six city council seats are up this year for two-year terms. All six candidates will be up for reelection in 2023, with new district maps based on data from the 2020 U.S. Census. The candidates with the most votes in each race will be elected to the council.

The Idaho Statesman asked questions of all 11 council candidates. The 10 who responded shared their thoughts on the Boise’s housing crisis, the city’s response to COVID-19 and Murgoitio Park. Their responses are unedited.

District 1 candidate David Jones did not respond.
