Elections

Idaho candidates file for federal, state, county offices. Here’s who will be on your ballot

It’s official — the filing date has closed for candidates seeking election and Idahoans can expect to see some familiar names and some new ones on the ballot for the May 19 primary.

Up for election this year are three of Idaho’s four federal congressional seats and all 105 seats in the Idaho Legislature. Additionally, in each of Idaho’s 44 counties, four offices are up for election this year: county commissioner districts one and two, prosecutor and sheriff. The filing deadline for candidates was March 13.

All three of Idaho’s incumbent members of Congress — U.S. Sen. Jim Risch and U.S. Reps. Mike Simpson and Russ Fulcher — are seeking re-election.

Several Treasure Valley and southern Idaho incumbent legislators are not seeking re-election: Sens. Cherie Buckner-Webb, D-Boise, Maryanne Jordan, D-Boise; Bert Brackett, R-Rogerson; Reps. Robert Anderst, R-Nampa; Gary Collins, R-Nampa; Rob Mason, D-Boise.

Additionally, Boise Democratic Rep. Melissa Wintrow is running for Buckner-Webb’s seat, opening up her House seat, and Hammett Republican Rep. Christy Zito is running for Brackett’s seat, opening up her House seat.

Here’s who is running for federal offices and Treasure Valley legislative seats along with Ada County offices:

Incumbents are marked (i). R=Republican, D=Democrat, C=Constitution, I=Independent, L=Libertarian. Independents will only appear on the general election ballot.

Save the date: May 19

Idaho will hold its primary on May 19 to elect the state’s Constitution, Democratic and Republican candidates for federal, state and county offices. The general election is Nov. 3.

The Republican primary will be closed, meaning only voters affiliated with the Republican Party get a Republican ballot. The Democratic and Constitution primaries will be open, meaning any registered voter of any party in Idaho will be able to vote.

The deadline for registered voters to change political party affiliation for the May 19 state primary was March 13.

On the day of the primary election, same-day voter registration is allowed, and unaffiliated registered voters may affiliate with a political party.
