Boise’s Chinese community plans march, rally at Idaho Capitol Saturday
The Chinese community in Boise will rally Saturday, Feb 20, in support of former New York police officer Peter Liang.
It’s one of more than 40 rallies around the country planned for Saturday to call for justice for Liang, a rookie police officer convicted of manslaughter for killing an unarmed African-American. The Liang supporters said Liang’s gun accidentally discharged, ricocheted off a wall and hit Akai Gurley, who later died.
Participants in the rally include the Idaho Chinese Organization and other Asian-American groups. They will meet at 1:20 p.m. at the Black History Museum, 508 Julia Davis Dr., and march along Capitol Boulevard for a rally at the Statehouse at 1:45 p.m. Rep. Sue Chew, D-Boise, will participate.
