Hundreds gather for and against ICE around Treasure Valley this weekend

Protesters and demonstrators across Treasure Valley held rallies Saturday both for and against the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration enforcement and the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement around the country.

This follows Friday’s nationwide strike, also observed in Boise, against ICE and the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration. Many protests are in response to the killing of two people in Minneapolis — Nicole Good and Alex Pretti — by ICE agents. Both were gunned down, Good in her vehicle and Pretti on the street.

This weekend in Boise, a far-right group, the Idaho Liberty Dogs, held a pro-ICE rally at the Idaho Capitol to show support for the Trump administration and ICE agents. About 200 supporters joined in with chants and prayers.

At the rally, ICE agents were called heroes and a speaker with the Idaho Liberty Dogs said they “are carrying out the will of we the people.” Two speakers at the rally praised “legal immigration” and spoke about their experiences immigrating to the United States and becoming naturalized citizens.

Across the street from the Capitol steps, dozens of counter-protesters gathered to oppose ICE and call for an end to its enforcement.

Earlier in the day in Caldwell, an anti-ICE demonstration took place, with a large crowd gathering at the Indian Creek Plaza to call for immigrant rights and abolishment of ICE. Speakers urged political leaders to stand against ICE and put in place immigrant protections.

Later in Boise, hundreds of cyclists took to the streets to “bike in solidarity” as a memorial for Pretti, the 37-year-old who was killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis last week, along with Good and others who have also been killed by ICE this year.
