If you need to renew your driver’s license today, you may be out of luck.

An issue with the statewide network system caused a network slowdown across all government agencies Tuesday, including the Division of Motor Vehicles, according to the Idaho Office of Technology Services.

The office told the Statesman in an email that the issue started Sunday morning due to what personnel found to be a failure in the core router.

Restoration efforts and quality assurance checks on the network were completed by Monday afternoon, but ITS received new reports of network disruptions Tuesday morning, including Wi-Fi connectivity issues and service impacts.

“Our network team, in collaboration with vendor partners, has been actively troubleshooting these ongoing issues, which are currently affecting network performance statewide,” an ITS spokesperson said in an email. “We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.”

The office said emergency vendor support has been engaged and the office has “all hands on deck,” but there is no estimate of when the issues may be resolved.

The Idaho Transportation Department stated its online services and DMV offices have been impacted by this network problem, according to a Tuesday news release. The agency said customers may not be able to renew licenses online or make driver’s license, title or vehicle transactions at county DMV offices.

“We understand this outage may be frustrating for our customers and partners,” DMV Administrator Lisa McClellan said in the statement. “We appreciate your patience as the Idaho Office of Information Technology Services works to restore full system functionality.”

ITD will provide updates on the issue on its website.
