The city of Boise has evolved in the past 35 years, prompting a re-design of its flag, and residents are being asked for help to choose the best design. The current flag features the city logo on a blue background.

The re-imagining of the flag began with a citywide call for input about the city’s values and culture, which garnered ideas regarding themes and symbols from nearly 3,000 Boise residents. Nearly 140 local artists then submitted original designs with personal statements explaining the image and themes used.

Now it’s down to just four possible designs.

“This process has been a truly inspiring celebration of community creativity and civic pride,” Mayor Lauren McLean stated in a press release. “Each flag designs tells a story about who we are as a city. Now, we’re asking the community to choose the flag that best reflects our shared values and identity, a true Boise flag.”

Flag submissions were reviewed by a flag design committee made up of Boise residents and city staff, as well as civic and elected leaders. The committee settled on and released four final designs on Thursday, April 3. The public will now be able to vote on a flag they believe best represents their city.
