Train derails in Weiser, no one injured, no toxic materials involved
No one was injured in a train derailment that happened in Weiser around 4 a.m. Friday, according to Union Pacific Railroad spokesperson Francisco Castillo.
The cause of the derailment is still under investigation, but no toxic materials were involved. The train was hauling soda ash from Wyoming to Portland and had about 110 cars. Five of those cars derailed, dumping some of the soda ash, Castillo said.
Crews anticipate it could take about 24 hours to right the train, and get everything back on track. It could take longer if crews need to address serious damage on the tracks. By noon, two trains had been delayed due to the derailment, Castillo said.
