Angler catches massive fish from Idaho river, shattering record. ‘What a fish!’
A bow fisher caught a massive, record-breaking fish out of an Idaho river, wildlife officials said.
Riley Farden of New Plymouth shot the grass carp with an arrow June 8 in the Snake River, Idaho Fish and Game said in a news release.
The fish weighed 67.65 pounds and was 49 inches long with a girth of 32.75 inches, shattering the previous record of 39.5 pounds, officials said.
The archery angler also beat the grass carp record for anglers who reeled in the fish with a rod, which is a separate category.
That record was set in 2021 by Cris Endicott, who caught a grass carp from the same Snake River that weighed 46.7 pounds and was 50 inches long. A girth wasn’t listed for this previous fish.
“It’s a whopper,” one person commented on the wildlife agency’s post.
“THAT’S IN THE WATER??? nope.. that fish is as big as me,” another person wrote.
“How would you like to be hooked to that monster,” someone else said.
Carp are a nongame fish, so bow fisher’s are allowed to catch them, wildlife officials said.
Grass carp are not native to Idaho, but they are found in multiple areas around the state, according to wildlife officials.
New Plymouth is about a 50-mile drive northwest from Boise.
