Idaho officials search for man missing near campground. He possibly drowned
Idaho County officials are searching for a missing person who may have drowned near a campground, according to a Thursday news release.
The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office said in the news release it was looking for a missing 68-year-old Montana man reported missing near the Wilderness Gateway Campground in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest on Wednesday. The release did not identify the man.
The news release said 911 received a call around 2:50 p.m. advising the man was missing and had possibly drowned. The man was last seen around 1:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The campground is near the Lochsa River off of U.S. 12 about 70 miles northeast of Grangeville.
The sheriff’s office said it has searched the area on the ground and with a drone, and has brought in a K9 search team and had assistance from rafters. The office said it will continue searching today on the ground, in the water and by drone and may deploy a dive team if conditions allow.
