Group played Idaho lottery together every five weeks for 23 years — and finally won
A group of five have been trying their luck with the Powerball since 2000 and it finally paid off, Idaho officials said.
The former coworkers have been buying a QuickPick ticket every five weeks in Malad City for 23 years and finally bought a winning ticket with a prize of $150,000, according to an April 19 news release by the Idaho Lottery.
“Though two of them have moved to AZ and some have passed on, this group has never missed their chance to win big,” lottery officials said in the news release.
The group is splitting the prize money evenly, officials said.
Two of the winners will be putting the money toward spoiling their “grandchildren after taking a trip to Australia together,” while another winner plans to host an “extra spectacular” 80-person annual family reunion, according to the release.
McClatchy News reached out to the Idaho Lottery on April 21 and is awaiting a response.
Malad City is about 270 miles southeast of Boise.
