Where do you stand in the Greater Idaho debate?
The Greater Idaho debate has been around since 2020, sparked when people in southwestern Oregon created a petition to move Idaho’s border west to include part of their counties. This move to redraw states’ borders would require approval in Idaho’s and Oregon’s Legislatures, plus be approved by the U.S. Congress.
It’s been on the ballot in 11 Oregon counties in 2021, getting the thumbs up from voters asking their local officials to explore seceding from the Beaver State and joining The Gem State.
Last week, Rep. Judy Boyle, a Midvale Republican, introduced a joint memorial that, if approved, would ask the Oregon Legislature to discuss the Greater Idaho movement with its Idaho counterpart. The Idaho House adopted it and it now is referred to the Senate State Affairs Committee.
Although this seems somewhat far-fetched considering what needs to happen to make this a reality, we want to know what you think.
