A North Dakota man was seriously injured and his passenger died late Monday night after their Honda Spirit hit a deer on US 93 near Craters of the Moon National Monument.
Passenger Alexandria J. Porterfield, 29, of Highland, Calif., was wearing a helmet but died at the scene, Idaho State Police said in a news release. Driver David A. Smart, 30, of Minot, N.D., was taken by air ambulance to a Pocatello hospital. He was not wearing a helmet, ISP reports.
The pair were driving north on 93 about 11:20 p.m. when they collided with the deer and were ejected from the motorcycle, ISP reports.
Both lanes of the highway were blocked for about three hours, according to the news release.
