Police ID pilot in fatal weekend plane crash in Payette County

Police on Monday identified the pilot of a fatal weekend plane crash in Payette County.

In a press release, Payette County Sheriff’s Office identified the pilot as 74-year-old Prescott “Gene” E. Wilkie, of Payette. It’s not clear whether anyone else was with Wilkie in the plane.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still unclear. The aircraft crashed near NE 19th Avenue between Payette Heights and Scotchpines Road on Saturday morning. That’s about a mile from the small Payette Airport.

Payette law enforcement said the FAA is handling the investigation and will release further details.
