Manuel H. Valero Jr., 76, of Nyssa, Ore., was driving at a slow speed Monday morning on the southbound shoulder of U.S. 95 when he made a left turn in front of another vehicle also heading south, Idaho State Police reported.
Paul D. Page, 47, of Wilder tried to avoid Valero’s 1998 Ford Ranger pickup by steering his 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup into the northbound lane but Valero’s vehicle struck a trailer being pulled by Page’s truck at 10:58 a.m.
Valero was taken by ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Ontario, Ore. Page and a passenger in Valero’s pickup, Roberto A. Viera, 55, of Nyssa, were not injured, the ISP said.
The northbound lane of US95 was blocked for one and half hours while the scene was cleared.
