Her name will forever be a ranked at the top of famous English novelists thanks to works like “Sense and Sensibility” and “Emma,” and now a piece of author Jane Austen’s history is on the real estate market in Hampshire, England.
Austen’s childhood property has listed for just over $10 million.
She was not only born and raised there; it is also where she wrote some of her most famous works.
“Austen lived on the property from 1775 until 1800 where her father was Rector for more than forty years, although nothing now remains of the rectory in which the family lived,” the listing on Savills says. “While there Jane Austen wrote ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘Northanger Abbey’ during what has been described as the most tranquil period of her life, which ended when her father retired to Bath in 1801.”
The home is called the Steventon House and it was built by her brother Edward after the family had moved away, according to the listing. The residence was a replacement house for the one the Austen’s originally lived in.
“Many homes across the country can lay claim to having ties to some of Britain’s most historical figures, however only Steventon House was the birthplace of iconic author Jane Austen, where she wrote some of her most significant works,” listing agent Ed Sugden told Mansion Global.
