Jackie and Shadow are empty nesters! See their eaglets take flight

The Big Bear Valley nest is empty, as Jackie and Shadow's eaglets have taken off on their own.

The two eaglets fledged the nest, with Luna taking his "leap of faith" and flying from the nest on Monday, June 29, at 9:24 a.m. local time, according to the Friends of Big Bear Valley and Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam's Facebook page.

"No hesitation, he just knew he could do it!" the page said in a post.

Video captured the moment Luna and Sandy took flight.

Sandy, Luna's sister, accidentally fledged the nest on Sunday, June 28, when she lost her footing and fell. She has since been spotted near her brother.

But just because the eaglets fled the nest doesn't mean they are on their own. Jackie and Shadow will follow them and make sure they are fed and getting the care they need.

One of the eaglets accidentally leaves the nest

Unlike Luna, Sandy's fledge was accidental.

"Luna attempted to jump over Sandy to get back to the nest, when Sandy lost her footing and fell to some branches below," the organization stated in a separate Facebook post.

Sandy was able to free herself from the branches and landed somewhere below the nest. She has since been spotted near her brother, and she is "nicely sheltered, moving around and looking good."

Will Sandy and Luna return to the nest?

We could see more family gatherings as Luna and Sandy get the hang of navigating their habitat, according to the organization.

But the decision is up to the eaglets.

In previous years, eaglets have returned to the nest to eat, sleep and "just hang out together," the organization stated.

Fans of the animals can tune in to see if the eaglets return on the Friends of Big Bear Valley and Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam Facebook page, or watch live on the Organization's website or YouTube channel.
