Daring skunk hides meal in apex predator’s den. Watch other animals come to dine
A bold skunk was caught on camera dragging the remains of a wild turkey carcass into an apex predator’s den in northwest Montana, video shows.
Then other critters came to feast on the skunk’s leftovers, the incredible video shows.
Wildlife photographer Janet Pesaturo of Winterberry Wildlife shared the video to YouTube on April 1. The conservation biologist also works as a certified wildlife tracker, according to her Youtube bio.
“Highlights of visitors to a road killed turkey we had stashed under the little juniper just outside of the hollow log which is sometimes used by a mountain lion for napping,” Pesaturo wrote in the video’s caption. “The carcass was first discovered by a weasel but ravens eventually ate most of it.”
The daring skunk drags chunks of the carcass one by one into the log for safekeeping, the video shows.
Two days later, the mountain lion heads toward the log for a mid-afternoon nap but pauses to investigate the various scents around its lair. The predator appears unimpressed with the skunk’s use of its napping spot and leaves the same way it came.
“The lion made a brief appearance, scoffing at the remaining slim pickin’s and moving on,” Pesaturo wrote in the caption.
Another couple of days later, the camera captures a fox carrying the remains out of the log in its mouth. Then a bobcat shows up to snack on the rest, the video shows.
“Everyone enjoys a meal,” someone said in the comments. “A good bite to eat is always welcomed in the wild.”
