An Uber driver tried to “beat” a yellow light and crashed into another car, injuring two passengers in Arizona, police said.

The incident happened at about 10 p.m. Saturday, March 29, according to the Glendale Police Department and Arizona’s Family news outlet.

Police told McClatchy News the Uber driver was driving straight through an intersection at the same time another vehicle was turning left.

Both drivers were trying to get through the yellow light when they collided, police said.

The crash injured two passengers in the Uber’s vehicle, police said.

One woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and another person was taken with less serious injuries, police said.

There were other passengers in both cars, but police said they didn’t know their condition.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this crash, and we’re keeping those injured in our thoughts as they recover. We’ve been in touch with both the rider and driver, and we stand ready to support law enforcement in their investigation,” an Uber spokesperson told McClatchy News by email March 31.

If a crash happens while riding in an Uber, the incident can be reported through the app, and the company’s safety team will investigate it.

Glendale is in the Phoenix metro area.
