68-year-old hides at neighbor’s house after being attacked, NM cops say. Son arrested
A son was arrested after being accused of assaulting his mom and setting their house on fire, New Mexico officials said.
On March 4, Taos deputies responded to a home in Chamisal after getting reports of domestic violence, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office.
After deputies arrived at the scene, they found the home, garage and two cars “engulfed in flames,” officials said.
They eventually found the victim, a 68-year-old woman, at her neighbor’s house, officials said.
The woman had traumatic injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital, officials said.
While searching the woman’s property, officials found her 46-year-old son hiding, deputies said.
He was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery on a household member with a deadly weapon, and arson, officials said.
Taos is about a 130-mile drive northeast of Albuquerque.
