The Bonnet House? Find out why California home for sale has a unique name and look

A strangely alluring, and unique, house has landed on the real estate market in Los Angeles, hidden in the hills that overlook the famous city.

Referred to as “The Bonnet House,” there are numerous aspects that make the California home stand out in regards to its design and modern architecture. Listed for $2.499 million, it’s not the just the home’s build that attracts wandering eyes — but the views cast a spell too.

“Set on a steep site, the Bonnet House is embedded into the hillside as a series of redwood-clad cubes topped with an angled roof that parallels the incline - an unusual detail for a Richard Neutra-designed home,” listing agent Todd Bachenheimer said in a news release.

“Neutra was a master of integrating his architectural homes into their unique surroundings. This early modernist design is no exception. It echoes the Hollywood Hillside it sits upon and is perfectly sited for stunning sunsets, canyon and city views while incorporating outdoor living into every room.”

Neutra is a huge name in the architectural world — right up there with Frank Lloyd Wright, who worked with Neutra when the latter was young. Time Magazine put the two side-by-side in 1949, ranking Wright at the very top above notable architects, with Neutra following close at No. 2 in American architecture, US Modernist reported.

Features of the two-bedroom, two-bathroom residence, per the release from Compass, include:

  • Ribbon windows

  • Sliding glass doors

  • Fireplaces

  • Deck

  • Separate studio
