A pair of teenagers fell through the icy surface of a Utah pond where they were ice fishing, cops said.

The 14-year-olds were fishing on Glasmann Pond in Ogden when they fell in Monday, Jan. 27, KSLTV reported.

The pond is between 6 and 10 feet deep and does not completely freeze over at this time of year, KUTV reported.

One of them was able to get out of the water before police arrived, while the other was trapped under the surface for just over two hours until a search and rescue team found him, Ogden City Police spokesperson Lt. Will Farr told McClatchy News on the phone Jan. 28.

He was transported via helicopter to a local children’s hospital, where he eventually died of his injuries, Farr said.

The teen who got out of the pond before cops arrived did not appear injured but was also transported to a local hospital for care. Information about his condition was not available.

Ogden is about a 40-mile drive north from Salt Lake City.
